A few bits from the garden
Log Burning Stove Install
So after much perusal of the interweb and ignoring all the recommendations for Clearview, we decided on a Burley Brampton 8 kw. It is the most efficient stove on the market at 85.5%, which basically means it gives out more heat and burns less wood than all other stoves, and produces much less ash. Looks wise it is very contemporary, which is why I went to all the effort of the hearth and brickwork to disguise it’s plain looks. The fire surround is 17th century oak carved, rescued from a stripped pine shop when we first moved in.
Logburning Stove Project
Our sitting room/lounge was unusable last winter because of the pathetic heat output from the flame effect gas fire. Coupled with the exorbitant cost of gas we decided a solid fuel stove was the way forward. My garden backs onto about 3 acres of woodland/wasteground so wood should not be a problem.
On removing the existing installation I discovered that the recess had been badly hacked around in the past,no lintel, and one side had been removed to accommodate the pipes for a back boiler.
Blueberries for breakfast
A while ago I mentioned enjoying some extra-large, sweeter-than-usual blueberries with my porage – a new variety the supermarket were calling ”Atlantic Blue”. They’re going to be horribly expensive if the shop in question ever stops selling them at “half-price” – £1.99 for 225g. Personally, I think that’s as much as their market will bear, though M&S might get away with the £3.99.
Anyway, wondering if it was possible to buy a plant, I researched them a bit. No ads for nurseries supplying them came up, but I found out a bit about the variety. It turns out “Atlantic Blue” is the name of the nursery which bred them.
